The new and improved guardsman

So I finished last days WIP and here's how he turned out, I listened to the critique from the posts over at the Imperial Guard Message Board and toned down the highlighting, not sure if I like the result yet, going to have to take a long and hard think about how I'd like to do with the entire army. Feel free to let me know which one you like the best, less or more highlighting?

Tried out painting eyes again and even tho this dude has some major Don Juan vibes to his eyes, it wan't nearly the hassle I remember it as. I'm starting to think that I very well might ditch the Forgeworld heads and go for the regular ones, for the bulk of the infantry.

Today's WIP is and old Leman Russ, it was the first model I ever painted and I decided to repaint it, tried out my airbrush and some zenithal-highlighting  doing this I thought; how easy it would be to paint Space marines, just slap on some zenithal-highlighting, paint the details and you're done. Of course I realize it's more to it than that, I do however think there might be some truth to my thoughts, what do you guys think?

As always feel free to comment on the work!

Better Pics & WIP

So here are the, according to me, better pics.

I had some sunlight today so I went outside with my girlfriend's camera and took some pictures, I still think there are some improvement needed to be done with the photographing of the minis, these are however far better than the ones from yesterday with the shady LED-lighting.

Also, today, they are based!

A new pic of the whole squad.

Trooper 001 - I wasn't really sure what the thing strapped to the left side of the helmet was, I painted it as an Ork's tusk.

Trooper 002 - Clearly my favorite of the lot, all around decent in my opinion.

Trooper 003 - I'm not sure if the winged-skull was suppose to be broken or if it's just a faulty casting, otherwise OK, biggest let down was the decal with the numbers on the shoulderpad, since the edge of the decal is clearly visible.

Trooper 004 - In my opinion the ugliest of the lot, absolutely drenched in primer and basecoat, so the winged-skull, lens and detail over all was all messed up.

Trooper 005 - Pretty OK overall, no big letdowns or anything remarkably good.

Todays WIP

Grabbed one of my old guardsmen, from my last try four years ago at the guard. He was primed in black but I gave him a Skeleton Bone basecoat with the airbrush and gave painting eyes another try.
Basically eyes where the reason I quit painting guardsmen last time around, this time around however it wasn't even that hard, maybe the result wasn't great but I think I might ditch the Forgeworld heads for my regular infantrymen and save them for veterans and the like.

Let me know what you think!

Alpha squad

Ok, first post, first pictures and the first five man squad painted.
So without further ado, I give you Alpha squad.

I know the photos sucks monkey balls, but better ones are coming, hopefully tomorrow, if there's any sun outside I'll try to get some better lighting.

The whole squad, they took their fair time to paint, the reasons for that are many, but mainly because it was the first guardsmen I've painted in years, a whole (for me) new paint scheme, and plenty of new painting techniques to try out and get a hold of.

They are nearly finished, I think I'm going to add grenades and ammo packs and of course I'll base them. I was planing on having the Cadian symbol on their right shoulder, it didn't work out, because the decal would wrinkle up and it just didn't look good at all, so I went for the Imperial Aquila instead.

I think they turned out OK for a first go and I know somethings I'm going to change for the next painting session. I am however, not sure how to tackle this whole project, since I was hoping to spit out a five man squad every weekend, and have a foot-slogger army. I'm now considering changing to a mechanized company or even and totally armored company, with the Forgeworld books.

My own thoughts on the painting, I really like the way the Forgeworld heads came out, the lenses look pretty sweet and I didn't think it would be so easy to paint them. Absolute fails in my own saying is the winged-skulls and the highlighting overall. I started out doing a regular edge highlight, but it failed miserably and I went over to some kind of mixed drybrushing and highlighting.

I would love to hear some thoughts and any constructive criticism is welcome!
